About Us

Amicus Cambridge Central Branch 1859 remains one of the original and largest Amicus union branches in Cambridge and surrounding area.

It has seen its geographical area expand in recent years with other branches being incorporated when the AEU and EEPTU merged to form the AEEU, which then merged with MSF in January 2002 and became Amicus.

Therefore the branch not only covers members in Cambridge, but also has members in surround towns and villages, from Bury St Edmunds in the East to Huntingdon in the West and From Haverhill in the south to Downham Market in the North.

For many years Amicus/AEEU Full time officials administrated the Branch until the new rulebook gave the running of branches back to the membership. Since the control has been given back the branch has been become more active, supporting local and national campaigns. Along with the new branch banner we have attended various trade union rallies and demos around the country.

The branch is the 1st point of call for members and is involved in many aspects of Union activity including:

  • Supporting members of Amicus and offer Unions in disputes with their employers.

  • Liaising with Full Time Officers, if members require professional assistance from the Union.

  • Providing financial support for organisations and local campaigns that further the aims of Trade Unionism and Amicus.

  • Providing delegates to regional branch conferences.
